It saddens me that when we have the 2010 window opened to us,to showcase who we are for real not who or what they think we are,we still play 1% of our music in our radio stations & 99% usa....amazing lets go on and call our radio stations "the usa-SA radio" |

I agree with Bill. Being of the singer / songwriter genre, with something meaningful to say is a non-starter. What a tragedy that some of us have to look overseas for an audience. List too long to put here. Shame on SA. |

I have always been a proudly South African music fan. As a journalist I always try to highlight the significance of and the benefits of supporting our homebrewed sound. I have also moved a step further to establish a magazine(Musik Mag) whose main goal is to promote South African Music. Look out for the third issue of this fantastic magazine it will be at CNA in early january 2009. |

It is shameful that thousands upon thousands of fantastic music numbers by homegrown SA artists are callously shoved aside to make way for "hits" by US and European stars. |

The only way for SA Music to grow is exposing the public to it. Very sad that the people who can make that happen are the same people who make sure that local music is pushed away from the "prime time". An industry can't grow over night, it takes years of work and dedication.
This is something that needs to be done for the sake of South African Music, not a quick buck. |

If we, as musicians can stand together and make a stand, the whole industry will grow, and possibly even reach an international level.

I find the recent edging out of DJs Barney Simon Benjie Mudie Michelle Constant and Richard Haslop out of their Shows to be an absolute OUTRAGE. This is surely Cultural Genocide at work. These fine DJs gave me the only airtime I could get- now i'm effectively gagged. These Loyal South Africans have been Immense supporters of Local Music, covering an exteremely wide range of Cultures and Styles.
We truly have been stabbed in the back.
How can I add my modest weight to Right this Wrong. |

Lu Chase (Iridium Project) |
As a up and coming South African artist I know that the need for our music to be supported by the powers that be needs to be a little more progressive. As we dopnt get grants etc it's more than just immensly difficult to sustain your art and make money. Thus artists often lead a glamorous meagre existence. We are unable to buy property, have no medical insurance and cannot support our families on our vocation alone. Thus we spread ourselves so thin and do so many other jobs that our focus becomes shifted and the industry stagnates instead of growing. Help us by playing our music and therefore increasing our royalties and popularity amongst the public. That said we shouldn't "cut out" international musci. But merely limit it so that our voices are heard and South African music culture becomes more exposed.
Kind regards
Lu Chase

As a local actress and model, I have struggled, and still do, to get my local career going. It is sad that I had to go to countries like the US and Switzerland to get my artistic career off the ground. We should all do a little to support local talent, to make a big difference. |
